Synchronize with the Season… Winter into Spring Medicine: REST, RESTORE, REVITALIZE!

Ancient cultures believed that human beings should live in harmony with the natural cycles of their environment. The cold and darkness of winter urge us to slow down. This is the time of year to reflect on our health, replenish our energy and conserve our strength.

Join Dr. Jeanette Wolfe as she shares how to synchronize your children & families with their natural, optimal rhythms for heath & harmony. Have you noticed your pets and children & how they demonstrate living consciously?  We’ll cover seasonal foods, supplements & practices to support your family’s vibrant energy with seasonal, natural wellness. We’ll look at how the simple, natural practices can nourish us.

Why I live, teach and share healing awarenesses in a seasonal format…

My greatest lessons and most fond memories occurred around a heavy, round, oak table in my family’s kitchen. It’s heavy clawed feet grounded us. It was the heart center of the entity of the family, the nucleus of sharing. I did not realize, in my youth, what remarkable teachers my parents were. They are of eastern European Heritage and survivors of WWII. Both were fully in sync with seasonal & earth rhythms, trained early on to be aware of all nuances in their bodies and spaces merely to survive. They learned how to forage, how to use every aspect offered to them with gratitude. Our table was not just a place to share meals, but the central point of preparing them as well. It was the place we deposited and prepared the daily, weekly and seasonal harvest for canning, freezing, pickling and gelling. It was the spot we would lay out the medicinal and culinary herbs for drying or freezing when the seasons changed. It was the safe space to share about our daily experiences. We would listen to our parent’s share the wisdom from their parents and grandparents regarding how each plant had it’s season and it’s reason. They both showed me the brilliant lessons of what each Season offered.

Dr. Jeanette Wolfe is a Naturopathic Doctor, Intuitive Counselor, 6th generation Shaman & Vibrational Healer and Feng Shui Practitioner. Jeanette has helped clients live their highest goals & dreams for 28+ years.  By integrating her understanding of ourselves as energy beings, with specialized applied kinesiology modalities, energy psychology, energy medicine and Naturopathy, Jeanette supports your process at the ’causal level’ of what’s really going on & expedites profound & permanent change with grace, ease & fun! Besides teaching lay people & professionals these invaluable skills, Jeanette currently works with medical institutions, schools, corporations & families & children to empower all who seek her out to heal emotionally, physically & spiritually!

Week Two:  Emotional Intelligence

Tuesday, January 10, 2012  1 PM CT

What Does Emotional Intelligence Have To Do With

Children’s Happiness and Success?  Everything!

An overlooked element in parenting involves helping children develop emotional intelligence (EI).  Not all children have the aptitude for superior academic performance, skill to be a superstar athlete, or talent to excel in the arts.  But, all children can be taught emotional intelligence skills which will significantly enhance their happiness and social and academic success. In fact, when schools implement emotional intelligence programs as part of the curriculum, suspensions drop and grades increase!  Yet, most parents know little about emotional intelligence, much less how to foster it in their children.  Tune into this program to learn the components of emotional intelligence, how to develop emotional intelligence in kids and how your own EI affects your parenting behavior.

Korrel Kanoy earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she studied Child Development and Family Relationships. She has been a college professor for over 30 years and has taught courses such as child development, adult development, general psychology, and emotional intelligence. In 2004, Korrel co-founded Developmental Associates, LLC, a consulting firm which specializes in developing emotionally intelligent solutions for organizations and their members. She specializes in working with schools, both to help them hire the most emotionally-intelligent teachers and to develop emotional intelligence in teachers and school leaders. Korrel is certified to administer and provide feedback on individual and 3600 instruments related to Emotional Intelligence, Leadership Styles and Organizational Climate, and she is a certified trainer for the Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-I 2.0 and EQi 2.0 360). Recently, Korrel published Annie’s Lost Hat (available from amazon.com), a picture book for children that teaches emotional intelligence lessons through the story. Annie’s Lost Hat contains a section for parents, providing them with tips about enhancing their children’s development and emotional intelligence. Also, she was recently chosen to co-author The Student EQ Edge with Steven Stein and Howard Book.

What Are The 5 Steps You Use to Emotion Coach Parents?

As a society, we are placing a strong emphasis on academics. While this is clearly important, academic success alone does not define the future “happiness” or “success” or children. Teachers help kids to pass tests at school, and parents must help children to pass the tests of life. Emotions are a part of our day from the moment we awake until we fall asleep. These emotions influence our thoughts and actions. Children who are taught to manage these three factors (emotions, thoughts, actions) will fare with greater success when they “graduate” from the comfort and protection… if not the “micromanagement” of their parent’s home. Emotional intelligence skills teach kids to identify their issues and manage problem solving for positive outcomes. Research proves that kids who are emotion coached by their parents are on a completely different trajectory than kids of other parents.

Keyuri Joshi “retired” from nursing to be a stay at home mom. As her only child grew more independent, she turned her passion of championing others into her profession. She is certified by the ICF (International Coach Federation) as a Life and Parenting Coach, and an Emotional Intelligence Coach.

Keyuri believes that toddlers are mini versions of teens and that if parents want the teenage years to be easier, and their children’s adult lives to be happier and more successful, they need to start early to identify and implement a parenting style that is, not just loving, but practical and productive. Keyuri works with parent of children aged birth to 10 years as a personal trainer for their private and parenting goals.

Of vital importance to Keyuri is to teach parents how to build emotional intelligence skills in their children. Research proves that kids who are raised by emotion coaching parents are on a completely different trajectory than children of other parents. Teachers help kids to pass tests at school and parents help their lids pass the tests of life.

Giving From the Overflow

In this presentation, you will learn what it means to give from the overflow. In my experience, parents feel continual tension between satisfying our own needs and satisfying the needs of our children. There does not have to be conflict. When you remember who you are as a human being — and feel satisfied in yourself, you are best prepared to give love and attention to your child. We forget that you are the greatest gift you can ever give to your child — a satisfied, happy you. That’s giving from the overflow.

In this presentation, Cassandra Arnold will draw on her experience as both a parent and a professional child care provider to start you on the road to answering the following questions:

  • How can I help my child identify his/her feelings and develop emotional intelligence?
  • How can I help my child learn how to process negative feelings and release them?
  • How can I help prepare my child to have positive interactions with peers?
  • How do I give my child feedback on his/her interactions with others?
  • How can I help my child discover who he/she is in relation to how he cares for him/herself and others?
  • Will developing my own emotional intelligence help me relate more fully and joyfully with my child?

Cassandra Arnold’s mission as an ACPI Certified Parenting Coach is to teach what I have learned in life as a parent, proprietor of a childcare center, and facilitator of parenting partnership support groups. I draw upon 30+ years of parenting and 6 years of studies in such areas as energy medicine and counseling to help young children and their parents cope with growth, development, stress, and relationships. I also have 10+ years experience providing in-home and center-based childcare and helping parents understand their children’s world. I offer you tools to uncomplicate your parent-child and parent-parent relationships and empower you to live and move from who you truly are, not from any idea of what a parent is.

Week Three:  Discipline

 Secrets to Successful Discipline

Going crazy trying to get your kids to listen to you? Even with a reasonable, kind request? Words create images, children or adults respond to the images they receive, not the words. Discover the secret of creating the image that will call your family to the highest within each of your loved ones. From understanding the way boys may respond differently than girls to the images that work for all, best-selling author Debbie Johnson will share her wealth of experience with children and adults, relying on her background in psychology and love of compassionate communication that works.

Debbie Johnson always loved children. With a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a minor in psychology, Debbie graduated Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Teacher’s Society. She was highly sought after as a substitute teacher for three years in inner-city, minority districts of Phoenix, AZ and Denver, CO. Her skills in getting extremely difficult children to listen, learn and pay attention was noticed by both teachers and administrators alike. Why? Because Johnson used progressive, positive methods she was taught at her Alma Matter, the University of Colorado. She then developed imaginative techniques that go beyond visualization for children and parents alike.

Responding Your Way to Effective Discipline Management

Imagine…your precious daughter and darling nephew (6 years of age) laughing, playing and then…. quiet.  Silence is your cue to see where they are and what they are doing. What do you see?  Two very happy children expressing their passion for art on the back of your sofa with crayons! What now?!  I know what you are thinking!  It is only natural to thwart the two little Picassos with shrieks of anger, frustration and punishments.

Yet, do impulsive reactions equate to effective behavior management?  Will reacting like a crazed lunatic make everything better and prevent this behavior from an encore performance?  Join me as I explore ways to discipline effectively (as you keep your blood pressure down) through responding to your children’s behavior versus reacting to them. I will discuss:

  • the effects of parental responses vs. reactions on our children’s behavior
  • specific strategies to help you respond to situations
  • tips for disciplining in a calm, rational and thoughtful manner

Sharon Egan is passionate about helping parents discover the incredible rewards that effective parenting can bring to a family.  Sharon believes that communication and connection are two key ingredients that will help parents foster healthy, strong and fun relationships with their children.  Through her work as psychotherapist, teacher, parent educator, workshop presenter and speaker and as an ACPI Certified Parenting Coach, Sharon brings years of experience to you and your family.  Most importantly, having raised three happy and successful children, Sharon understands and knows how to navigate through the stress, the pain, and the “what now” moments that parents face. Sharon received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Denison University and her Master’s degree in Psychological Services from the University of Pennsylvania.

Raising a Values-Centered Family

The old adage that our children do what we do and not what we say is appropriate here. If you treat other people with kindness and respect, your children will too. If you say please and thank you, your children will too. If you are honest and tell the truth, so will they be. Your children watch your every move. Learning to model and to talk about our own values helps us to educate our children, not by making them have the same values but helping them to discern what matters to them and how living a values-centered life leads to high self-worth, great relationships and personal success. In this call, Dr. Riordan will share how to determine what your own values are, how to model values and how to structure family rules, relationships and discipline around your values.

Dr. Minette Riordan became certified in 2006 as a Coach for Parents through the Academy for Parent Coaching International. Minette quickly moved from trainee to trainer and now teaches the marketing course for ACPI and co-teaches the adolescent training with Academy founder Dr. Caron Goode. In addition to her work with ACPI, Dr. Minette Riordan has successfully built a multi-media publishing company targeting families in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. She credits her success to learning how to connect with others through networking, referrals, strategic partnerships and an attitude of service to others first. Minette’s secret to sales success is not about winning a numbers game, but playing the people game: cultivating an attitude of curiosity and openness that will quickly help you attract clients and fans.

Prior to starting her company, Minette was an educator who earned her Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1995. She has taught at the university and high school levels, as well as adult education and personal development workshops. She was named the 2009 Small Business Owner of the Year by the Plano Chamber of Commerce and received the 2007 Altrusa Outstanding Women of Today award. Scissortail Publishing has produced North Texas Kids for 9 years, a magazine targeting moms in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. In June of 2011, she is launching a second publication titled byDesign: Your Life, Your Business, targeting women business owners. Her passion and joy come from helping others find the information, tools and inspiration they need to succeed. She is living proof that you can have it all: a successful business, healthy marriage and happy kids! Minette lives in Plano Texas with her husband, Brad and her two children, ages 12 and 10.

Discipline is Not a Dirty Word

In today’s world “discipline” tends to carry a negative connotation. Thoughts of order, control, and punishment come to mind when asked to define the word in the context of parenting. Although all of those words are part of the definition of discipline it’s doesn’t need to have a negative slant to it. In this presentation Lesa Day will dig deeper and share why:

*  Discipline is so important in a child’s growth and development
*  Through love and connection it can be easily implemented daily in a child’s life
*  A child thrives with discipline
*  It’s critical in building a child’s character
*  How you can start taking positive action steps immediately

Lesa Day has been coaching parents in the private sector for over 20 years. As an internationally known speaker, author, and parent coach, Lesa is sought out by parents, nannies, education and childcare agencies worldwide. Her specialty is teaching how to create a nurturing structure that empowers children to become responsible, respectful individuals. Her passion is to increase a child’s self-esteem by using their natural gifts and talents. Lesa Day also coaches parents experiencing separation and divorce to develop family plans that creates the best environment for the children while custody is being determined and lessen conflict as much as possible. With her top-selling book in hand, “How to Get Your Child to Say, Yes! I Can! and I Will!” this Atlanta based speaker transforms the hearts and minds of our youth and empowers them to reach their greatest potential.

How Today’s Technology is Affecting Children’s Emotions, Creative Abilities and World View

With the current use of technology today many children do not need to utilize their own creative abilities. When children are taught to explore and utilize their creative abilities they learn to be in control of their mind and their body. When everything is presented to them through all the various forms of electronic media their minds are not challenged and consequently they are easily influenced and controlled by all the negativity that is presented to them through TV programs, movies and video games.

Michael Simonson has followed his spiritual path for over 20 years. He is a naturally gifted spiritual teacher, clairvoyant healer and energy counselor.  He is able to “see” beyond the human body and deal directly with the core reasons for physical, mental and emotional difficulties within his clients. Through helping people understand how they create their own reality with the thoughts that they empower those he works with learn how to master their fears and open to the life they are meant to live from a place of peace and love.

Over the years, Michael has conducted energy workshops throughout Western Canada, spent seven days at Esalen in Big Sur California as a visiting teacher. Michael works with clients in Canada, United States, Mexico, England, Europe, Australia, China, Africa, and the Middle East.

Most recently, Michael has been involved with a pilot program at the Hunter School in Rumney, New Hampshire, a school for young boys and girls with ADHD, Asperger’s and related conditions. Michael’s work with these “energetically sensitive children” at the school has been documented by Adam Mosston, an Emmy-Award winning TV producer who has captured some of the children’s progress on film.

Michael has also been working closely with Zach for the past two years, a young eight year old boy who along with his mother and father was the inspiration for Lisa Gardner’s NYT Bestselling Novel “Live to Tell”. Michael’s groundbreaking work with Zach resulted in an amazing journey that brought the boy out of the darkness and into the light through an understanding of energy and the utilization of white light. Zach and his family’s story was also presented to the world by the Oprah Winfrey show.

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/michael.l.simonson

Laurie Ferris, as the mother of Zach,  has experienced for years the emotional roller-coaster and stress of parenting an energetically sensitive child. From the time Zach was two, Laurie knew something was different about her son. She spent years seeing specialists and seeking help for Zach, whose behaviors continued to deteriorate, becoming more and more violent each year. Laurie read every book she could find on ADHD and other diagnoses. She tried different behavioral plans, special diets, therapies, numerous medications and mainstream behavioral approaches. Nothing worked…

When Zach was nearly eight years old, his behavior had become unmanageable in school and in the home. After several particularly violent episodes, Laurie had no choice but to hospitalize her seven year old child in a Pediatric Psychiatric Ward for nearly two months. It was at that time that Michael unexpectedly crossed Laurie’s path, offering an alternative explanation for her son’s behavior and assistance to aid her troubled son. Laurie began working with Michael and Gill two years ago, in a quest to save her son Zach. This experience has been a remarkable one, ultimately resulting in Laurie getting her son back. He is now off of all medications.

Laurie currently works at the Hunter School in Rumney, New Hampshire, a small non-profit therapeutic boarding school that offers holistic and complimentary approaches to helping young children with ADHD, Aspergers and related conditions.

Our journey which we now call “Saving Zach” has brought us together and inspired us to help other children and their families to get the help they need through alternative approaches and an understanding of these energetically sensitive children.

 Managing Your Family’s Technology Habit

Does your family spend more time communicating online than with each other? Is your television or cell phone constantly getting in the way of quality family time?

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), children over the age of two should have their screen time limited to one to two hours per day. And kids under two should not have any screen time at all. That’s a pretty tall order in today’s society. Screen time used to just include the family television set in the den. Now families have video games, handheld electronics, computers, iPods, cell phones, and portable dvd players to contend with, just to name a few.

If you’re like me and find these recommendations too hard to achieve, don’t despair. You may not be able to get your kids down to under two hours of screen time a day, but you can work towards reducing their viewing habits to a healthier level. In this presentation you’ll learn the skills you need to decrease your family’s technology use to a reasonable level and increase the quality time that you have to share with each other.
